A Romantic Dinner with the Love Release!

Patch, one of our design team members set up this Valentine's Day dinner for his wife using the dies from the Love release. We are loving this sophisticated side of Lifestyle Crafts and it's proof that these dies are extremely versatile! Patch was nice enough to send us instructions on how he set up this surprisingly simple dinner.

I wanted to set up a nice romantic table for two that felt handmade but also sophisticated. The Mini Takeout Box was my favorite. It was SO easy and with this choice of gold leafed paper I think it came out so nice. A perfect spot for a simple gold chain and a promise.

The candle wraps were easy. I used the XO border die and wrapped them around the candle.

The Votive holders were so fast and anything you put a soft flame behind always comes out looking great. Using the Love Pop-ups, I just measured the paper around the votive holders I had at the house, cut to size, and zipped it through the Epic and glued the seams. Done.

The mini valentine was my wife's favorite, I added the first lines of a poem read at our wedding, 'My truelove has my heart, and I have his' And instead of the the word 'heart' the clasp of the envelope took it's place. Perfect.

The Place mats were simple, I punched out 8 hearts (4 with scalloped edges and 4 plain nesting hearts, that way I could punch two styles at the same time) and glued them in the circle creating that quilted star pattern in the middle. I adjusted them to fit my plates and glued them in place with a glue stick.

The XO confetti was just the XO border die, snipped apart instead of left together. I also thought how great it would look if you had a few different lettering dies to do lots of sizes of X's and O's, maybe throw some glitter down with 'em so the table has some sparkle.

Patch's advice: Use what you have. Your house is filled with things that can be looked at in a different way and sometimes your plans need to change. Be flexible and the whole experience should be enjoyable. I had a lot of fun putting this table together and I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Monogrammed cards with the L Letterpress.

We recently received a submission that we wanted to share with everyone! Our new friend, Carrisa Wiley made these beautiful cards for personalized gifts to hand out during the holidays. They even have corresponding letterpressed monograms! She used the Damask and Scholastic printing plates to complete this look. Notice that die-cutting was also used here. Nesting Circles and Nesting Scallops are great for hosting a monogram and putting the finishing touch on a project. The ribbon is also a nice touch and really adds character to the project. Great work Carrisa and thanks for sharing!

A Holiday Garland with Nesting Circles and the L Letterpress.

Another Tree!

Today we're showing off another awesome project from one of our design team members, Patch. He made this beautiful tree out of an old book he found at a thrift store, our scalloped cupcake liner from the Essentials release, and the flourish from the Black Friday release.

We love the innovative thinking used to create this project. This is proof that our dies can be used for so many different things! Doesn't it look beautiful on the mantle?

A Christmas Tree with our Nesting Scallops!

Isn't this Christmas Tree made with our nesting scallops wonderful? One of our design team members Leah Killian came up with the idea and we just had to share. She was kind enough to send us instructions and photos of the process. Thanks Leah!

1. Cut a cardboard base slightly smaller than your largest scallop.
2. Poke a kebab skewer through the center of the base, and secure with glue.

3. Cut 3 of each size of scallop in coordinating scrapbook paper (use a heavier weight paper).
4. Put a small hole in the center of each scallop.
5. Put a dab of glue on the hole before you load them onto your skewer from largest to smallest one at a time- leave a small space between each one.

6. Once you reach the top, use stars from the basic cupcake liner collection glued back to back to cover the tip of the skewer.

7. To make larger or smaller trees, just cut more or less scallops. I also inked the edges of my scallops.

National Stationery Show

We're back from NYC and had a great time at the National Stationery Show! It was great to be able to meet so many people and show off all of the Lifestyle Crafts products...including new printing plate designs and cutting dies (watch for more detailed info on these products in the next few months)!

[inspire me] jam jar

I love freezer jam and often forget how fast and easy it is to make. Last Christmas a friend of mine gave me several jars of raspberry freezer jam. The jars were all different shapes and sizes and set on a white square platter. She had spray painted the lids of all the jars so they would coordinate. Not only did they look nice on the platter, but they looked nice in my freezer. Not that it really matters how they look in my freezer, but it's the little things that make me happy.

A few days ago, strawberries were on sale so I made a batch of jam. I used a new set of jars with standard lids. I contemplated spray painting them because I don't love the printed image on the lid, but it was freezing/snowing outside and spray painting inside the house is never a good idea (trust me...I've tried it several times - you, your kids and especially your husband won't be happy.) Since spray painted lids were out of the question and I wanted the jars to look cute so I could give a few away, I decided to add a letterpressed insert on top of the lid. It was really easy, and I love how they turned out. I definitely think it makes the jam look more appetizing!

I letterpressed the image on L Letterpress paper using the red L Letterpress ink and die cut the image using the circle nesting die included in the combo kit.

Die-cutting Tip: When I'm die cutting an image I've already letterpressed, I like to reverse the way I traditionally place the die and paper on the Epic tool. It will leave a mark on your cutting platform which doesn't affect the functionality of the platform. For some of you messing up the nice smooth appearance of your platform will be unacceptable, which I totally understand. If I didn't like how easy it is to position the die to ensure I'm cutting exactly where I want, I'd prefer an unmarred platform too. If it doesn't bother you, try it. Instead of the traditional placement method (platform, die with cutting side up, paper, then cutting mat), place the paper on the platform then position the die cutting side down on top of the paper. Place the cutting mat on top and roll through the Epic 6.

I think the line border from this letterpress printing plate set is perfect for so many things! Don't let the fall/Thanksgiving theme in the set scare you away. I use this set all the time.

Here's a quick project I created this weekend. My neighbor had a baby so I wanted to drop off a small welcome gift of burp cloths and anti-bacterial gel...can you really ever have enough of these two things with a baby??

The letterpressed gift card was a perfect finishing touch. I love how the lines of the printing plate can look like ribbon or twine wrapped around the paper.

Did you know that you can mix L Letterpress Inks to make your own custom colors? The palette knife in the the L Accessory Tool Kit is perfect for this. Simply take 2 or more colors of ink and mix together. When mixing colors, here are some helpful tips to remember:

Add darker colors to light colors. It takes a lot less dark ink added to light ink to make a new color than vice versa.
Mix enough ink to complete your project to ensure the color stays consistent for all pieces.
Write down the "recipe" for your custom color so you can recreate it in case you run out of ink or you want to make more for a future project.

The L line currently includes a dark green and bright green ink, but I was looking for a different green...something more like grass green. So, I mixed dark green and yellow together in different combinations to create three new shades.

Here's the recipe I used to create these three new shades of green:
   1 part dark green : 1 part yellow
   1 part dark green : 3 parts yellow
   1 part dark green : 7 parts yellow

A month before we released the L Letterpress, I had baby. A question we always get is do I really have to use the L Cleaning Cloths? Can't I just use diaper wipes?

Well, of course you don't have to use L Cleaning Cloths, but they work so well. When developing the products, I went through lots of diaper wipes and paper towels to try and clean up the ink we were testing. Let's just say I wasted a lot brayers and paper because it was easier to just throw everything away than deal with the mess and time of trying to clean everything up.

This made our search for a great ink cleaner even more important, and I'm really happy with how the cleaning cloths turned out. The other night I ran out of cleaning cloths so I had to resort back to the diaper wipe option. Not fun. I almost drove to our corporate warehouse in the middle of the night to get more.

Once you learn the basic technique of using the L Letterpress ink, printing becomes a lot easier. It just takes a little practice and always remembering that less is more.

L ink is formulated to create a thick, tacky consistency. This is essential for achieving great letterpressed prints. I find that spending a little extra time in the beginning to prep my ink base and brayer is totally worth it.

To start, a little ink goes a long way! I typically squeeze a small pea size amount of ink onto the ink base and then use my brayer to roll it out into a smooth, fine square. You don't want any globs of ink or spots where the ink is heavier.

Squeeze out a dab of ink no larger than the size of pea.

Start rolling the ink out in a square pattern.

Keep rolling until the ink is spread out in a large square on the ink base. I spend a good amount of time (maybe about a minute) really rolling the ink evenly and smoothly on the ink base and roller.

You want a really fine, even layer of ink on both the base and roller. There should be no globs of ink. It should seem like the ink has been rolled directly into the base and has simply colored the top surface of the ink base.

I then like to do a "prep" ink run with my printing plate. I roll the brayer all over the printing plate using a little more pressure to ensure the plate is completely inked. I then print on a scrap piece of L Letterpress paper.

The first time you ink your plate make sure it is inked completely. I typically use a little more pressure and roll over the plate several times with the brayer. After a test print, try to minimize the number of time you roll over the plate with your brayer. You want a thin even covering of ink.

Then, I'm ready to start printing actual pieces. Again, a little ink goes a long way. You want to lightly roll the brayer over your printing plate in as few times as possible until the plate design is covered. Too much ink can result in globby, uncrisp printed designs.

For a reason unknown to me we have a life size cut out of George W. Bush tucked away in the break room. We decided he needed to join in the mustache festivities. The film undeveloped right over his mouth...creepy.

[Inspire Me] Chevron Pattern

I've been seeing chevron patterns everywhere, so we played around with the zigzag pattern from the Holiday Printing Plate Set 1 and several different ink colors to come up with these vibrant designs. It's easier than it looks. Scroll down for directions.

How To:
Here is where the clear lid and grid on the L Letterpress come in handy. First ink the whole chevron pattern in one color and letterpress that onto your piece of paper. While this first layer is drying, clean off your printing plate (chevron pattern) and brayer with your cleaning cloths. Select another color and ink the whole chevron pattern again. This time, before you close the lid of your L Letterpress, look through the top of the clear plastic lid and using the grid (or just eyeballing) shift your paper slightly up or down so that the second color does not overlap the first color. Repeat this process with up to 4 colors.

I love the color combination of blue and yellow. Here I've used these ink colors to create several different projects for a variety of occasions. To create the frame around the "Thinking of You" card, I used just half of the circle border from the Celebration Printing Plate Set 2 and repeated four times.

Wow! The Altitude Design Summit was a blast! We learned so much from the amazing line of panelists about social media, design and blogging. It was well prepared and executed. [Inspire Me] Baby O Shower

In November I escaped the Utah cold and headed to Florida to throw my sister a baby shower. She and her husband hadn't decided on a name yet, and since their last name starts with an "O" we called the little guy Baby O throughout the pregnancy. "O" was the inspiration for this circle themed baby shower. I included a lot of details, all of which I created using the L Letterpress.

[Invitations]
I used my home printer for the shower information then letterpressed the design using printing plates that I created.

[Food Labels]

I cut the circles using the QuicKutz nesting circle dies then letterpressed the ring patterns using red and orange letterpress inks.

[Guest Favors]

I filled small cello bags with candy, a letterpressed mustache and a little game, closing it off with a custom letterpressed tag to thank the guests for coming. We had everyone pose in front of a piece of fabric with their letterrpessed mustaches.

We're still here...promise. We've been incredibly busy preparing for the Altitude Summit and an upcoming product release. Michelle and I have been up to our ears in Letterpress creating samples and projects for the summit, while our other team members have been gathering all sorts of lovely things to give the L area some flavor.

I found an old photo of my grandmother and her brothers, cleaned it up a bit in photoshop and attached it to an A7 cream piece of a letterpress paper. The ornaments from the Holiday set 3 remind me of the vintage old world ornaments my grandmother put on her Christmas tree.

Here's another idea for a Christmas card to attach to a gift, give as a thank you or send with a family photo. I thought the hot pink and silver was a fun combination.

How To:
Letterpress the square flourish pattern from the Holiday set 2 in silver. While that is drying, cut out a shape with a QuicKutz nesting die, then letterpress the reindeer on that shape with your hot pink ink. Attach ribbon and reindeer to your square card with double sided adhesive.

I've used a combination of blind embossing and inking in golds and silvers to create this coordinated set of place cards. They are already packed in my luggage ready to take to Georiga where I'll be spending Christmas this year.

How To:
For the names, you can either run the letterpress paper through your printer or hand write them. Cut out the place cards using the QK place card die. You can also use your bone folder from the Accessory Tool kit to fold a piece of paper in half.

12 Days of Letterpress: Christmas Tree

I went to Target last week to buy this mirror tree I had seen a few weeks earlier. To my chagrin, they were sold out! This has happened to me so many times, you'd think I'd learn my lesson and buy instead of hesitating.

Fast forward to last night...

I was up with insomnia (thinking about some new letterpress designs, actually), and spotted a cone shaped piece of Styrofoam I had in a box full of other craft supplies to take to my basement storage. Add a little glitter and letterpressed ornaments and voila. I bit out there, but I was happy with the result. I think it would look so pretty on a mantle piece paired with glass candlesticks and ornaments. Make the ornaments with inks in traditional reds and greens, if that matches your Christmas decor.

How To:
Spray a Styrofoam cone (in a well ventilated area) with spray adhesive. Cover cone with silver glitter. Cut several circles out of white letterpress paper using your circle nesting shapes and Epic die cutting tool. Use your Paper Placement Guides to keep your paper circles secure as you letterpress a variety of snowflakes (Holiday set 4) and ornaments (Holiday set 4) in silver, gold and teal blue inks. Tie several knots/bows with your choice of ribbon and secure along with your letterpressed circle ornament to the dried Styrofoam tree with straight pins. Top it all off with your "star" using a bamboo skewer.

I used the diamond pattern from the Baby printing plate set 1 to create this Christmas card. By applying a second color ink to my printing plate and shifting my paper, I was able to create this two color design.

How to:
To create this two color background design, first letterpress the green diamonds. After wiping off the light green ink, apply your red, then simply shift your paper slightly. You can use the grid printed on the clear base and lid to be precise or simply look through the top of your clear lid and eyeball the placement of the diamond pattern. I used the blind emboss Letterpress technique to print the Merry Christmas phrase.

This year for Christmas I made my Grandmother's pepper jelly to give to my friends and co-workers. QuicKutz Double Sided Adhesive sheets as well as the L Paper Placement Guides came in handy with this project. I tried to do a step by step photo style to explain how I used these accessories.

Supplies:
L Letterpress Tool
Letterpress Paper (mini flat)
Letterpress Ink (dark green)
L Paper Placement Guides
Quickutz Double Sided Adhesive
QuicKutz nesting oval scallop (CC-SHAPE-3-036 )

How To:
First cut a piece of double sided adhesive, about the size of the mini flat letterpress card. Peel off one side of the adhesive and place the mini card on top.

Use the scallop oval from CC-SHAPE-3-036 or any other QuicKutz shape to cut your label out of your letterpress paper. You'll notice you have to use the light grey platform to cut paper using QK dies.

The paper placement foam guides are really useful when making multiple copies of a design. The foam guides have an adhesive on one side to hold your paper in place to make sure you get a perfectly aligned design each time.

After you letterpress your design, peel off the back of the adhesive and place it on your mason jar. Make sure the jar is clean and dry to ensure that the label sticks.

How To: (pretty self explanatory, but here you go).
Letterpress the flourish square pattern from the Holiday set 3 onto your square flat card. Letterpess a holiday phrase onto a piece of letterpress paper. Here the family photo is mounted on a piece of black cardstock to add extra dimension. Attach all the pieces together with double sided tape.

12 Days of Letterpress: Cupcake Liners

I often use Letterpress printing in conjunction with QuicKutz dies, which is what I did here with these festive cupcakes. I couldn't resist jumping on the cupcake bandwagon after QuicKutz released a cupcake liner die. With this die I was able to cut out liners in letterpress paper then print on top. Last week I brought this little ensemble to a Christmas party.

Supplies:
Cupcake Liner Die (CC-SHAPE-079-1)
No. 10 Flat Paper
Letterpress Inks (red, light pink, teal green)
Holiday printing plate set 4
Wooden Skewer

How To:
Polka Dot Liners: Letterpress the polka dot pattern in your desired color on a No.10 piece of letterpress paper first, before cutting out the shape (this makes it easier to line up the polka dots). The No.10 paper is longer than the square polka dot printing plate, so I had to print half of the No.10 paper, then slide the paper to letterpress the other half. After the ink has dried cut out the cupcake liner shape using your QK die.

For the other liners, simply cut them out using your QK die, then letterpress holiday shapes in various colors on the front.

Top it all off by letterpressing a holiday phrase and attaching to a bamboo skewer.

I love the Christmas tree from the Holiday printing plate set 3, which we've paired with plums and silvers to create an elegant holiday place setting.

Supplies:
L Letterpress and Epic Tools
Letterpress Paper (A2 Fold)
Holiday Print Plates Set 3
Holiday Printing Plate Set 4
Letterpress Inks (Silver & Custom Plum)
Palette Knife
Ribbon

How To:
To create the custom plum letterpress ink, mix red and blue inks using your palette knife (which comes in the Accessory Tool Kit). Play around with the colors until you get the shade of plum or purple that you want.

First letterpress the silver Christmas tree. After the ink has sufficiently dried, letterpress the plum tree, overlapping the silver one slightly. I used the "Happy Holidays" plate from Holiday Set 4, but feel free to add whatever phrase you'd like. Print your phrase of choice on a separate piece of letterpress paper. Then layer this piece over the top of the trees. This makes it look as if you didn't print the bottom of the trees. Layer a coordinating ribbon over the top with double-sided take to hide the paper "seam".

Applications:
Throw in a family photo and make it your holiday card to send out to family and friend. Attach it to a wrapped present or insert a gift card for the perfect present.

Why Did We Create the L Letterpress?

In a nutshell…it was extremely difficult, expensive, messy, space-consuming, time-consuming and overwhelming for a basic crafter to letterpress at home. And as a creative person who likes to craft at home, I wanted to letterpress…

A Love of Letterpress…
I love the feel, texture and elegance of letterpress. A few years ago, the letterpress bug really hit me, and I became obsessed with making it my new hobby! I spent hours searching online for information about how to letterpress and began searching for an antique tool of my own. I knew I didn’t have the space to even consider a large letterpress tool, and I quickly found that the smaller, tabletop tools were difficult to find, especially at a reasonable price. Plus, I didn’t know enough about letterpress to be able to confidently purchase an antique tool and know that I could get it to work. At this point, I still had never actually used a letterpress machine. I narrowed my focus to finding a Chandler and Price Pilot which seemed to get the best reviews for someone who wanted to letterpress as a home hobby. After months of intensive research and searching, I eventually located a Chandler and Price Pilot in Canada that was being completely redone. I felt this was my safest option to get a tool that would work, bit the bullet and spent $2500 and another $800 to ship it. (Thousands of more dollars and a lot less space later, I've acquired 3 additional antique tools - but more on that in another post.)

Why Isn’t There A Letterpress Tool…
At the same time, I started thinking that there had to be a way to manufacture a new letterpress tool that would be easier to purchase in the marketplace. Of course working at craft company made it logical to begin this research process. I found a lot of people had this question, but no new tools had really surfaced. I knew the big challenges of creating a new letterpress tool were probably size, weight and the number of working parts. These factors would make it extremely expensive to create and manufacture a tool which in turn would make it extremely expensive for a customer to buy. As a consumer, I just wanted a small at-home tool that I could play with and create fun things.

A Simpler Way…
One weekend several months into this process, I decided there had to be an easier and faster way to create a letterpress tool. I spent the entire weekend playing with my QuicKutz Revolution tool, platform and metal dies testing different concepts and by Monday morning I knew we had a solution. We could create a letterpress tool that was easy to use, inexpensive and small enough to use at home on your kitchen table.

Next Steps…
Then came the fun (and hard!) part of designing, prototyping and redesigning again and again until we came up with what we have today. We also spent months and days working on the perfect accessories and complementary products for the tool. I knew the right paper and ink were essential to the success of this product and we worked and worked and worked until we finally created a paper with that fantastic soft texture crucial to creating a quality letterpressed project.

It’s been so exciting to see this product line released into the marketplace with such great response! We continue to work on refining the products available in the line to ensure you purchase the best quality product and can’t wait to continue releasing many more fun and exciting products we’re currently creating for this line!

Blind Emboss

One cool technique with the L Letterpress is creating what is called a blind emboss. This is simply printing with the L Letterpress tool with no ink. I used this technique on the placecards and menus for my Thanksgiving dinner. It's a fast, easy way to add stylish detail and sophistication to any project.

Thanksgiving Workshop: A2 Card

This card shows the technique of blind embossing, which is created by running a printing plate through the Letterpress without any ink. The design is the same color as the paper, but still adds dimension and depth to your design. This card design would go great with the Thanksgiving envelope posted yesterday.

Letterpress Paper (A2 flat, white)
Holiday Printing Plate Set 2
Letterpress Ink (dark brown, red & orange)

How To:
Letterpress the leaf from the Holiday Printing Plate Set 2 in a variety of fall colors on one side of your A2 card. I wanted the design to feel like it continued off the paper, so I letterpress half of the leaves on the top and bottom of the card. After this ink dries, letterpress the border line designs from the Holiday Set 2 over the leaves. It's important that you do the inked leaves first, followed by the blind emboss so the ink is distributed evenly on the paper.

Thanksgiving Workshop: Envelopes

It's the "off" year. The year when most of my siblings spend Thankgiving with their in-laws. So, I sent them Thanksgiving cards instead to express my gratitude for them on this special holiday. Here's the coolest part. After I letterpressed cards for my family and friends, I letterpressed matching envelopes.

Supplies:
L Letterpress and Epic Tools
Letterpress Envelopes (A2 Cream)
Holiday Printing Plate Set 2
Letterpress Ink (Gold and Dark Brown)

How To:

Arrange your printing plates on the Letterpress. Apply both the dark brown ink and the gold ink before you run it through the Epic Six. I applied the dark brown first. Naturally, it touched the other part of the acorn and the leaf plate as well, in fact, I let it touch the edges on purpose. Then I went back and applied the gold ink on top. The result was a beautiful shading on the gold acorn and leaf. I love mixing colors and playing with the inks.
Letterpress envelopes are softer than other envelopes, but not as thick and soft as Letterpress paper. The result will be more of a print on the envelope than the deeper deboss you'll see on a letterpressed card.

Thanksgiving Workshop: Tags

I came across some fun metal ornaments a few weeks ago and used them as inspiration to make these autumn tags. Add a personal touch to a holiday gift or a bottle of wine for a hostess. I love the impression you get from the leaf printing plate paired with the gold letterpress ink.

Supplies:

Letterpress Paper (white, any size)
Holiday Printing Plate Set 2
Letterpress Ink
QuicKutz Nesting Die
Velvet Ribbon
Hole Punch

How To:
Cut out an oval or other nesting shape using a QuicKutz nesting die. The shape here has not been released into the QK line (sorry), but we have several similar shapes. Letterpress autumn shapes using the Holiday Printing Plate set 2 and gold and brown inks. Punch a hole in the top and add ribbon, securing with a knot, eyelet or brad.

Other Applications:
Print your guests' names onto the letterpress paper and use them as place cards for your Thanksgiving feast. Use these tags as holiday ornaments for neighbor gifts or to decorate your own themed Christmas tree.

I'm from the South where food and football are a religion. So, it's not wonder that Thanksgiving is a big deal around our house. In recent years I've loved creating menus to showcase the the traditional foods the talented Southern cooks in my life create every Thanksgiving. Little sister and I will not be able to fly home this year, so we will be celebrating Thanksgiving together, just the two of us. Since it's her first year away from home, I decided to continue on with our Southern food tradition and cook a big meal. This is the menu I created, which you are probably thinking is far too much for two girls, but what you may not realize is that Southernerns know how to eat...especially these two.

This project is simple, easy, and matched my Thanksgiving place setting perfectly.

Supplies:

No. 10 Flat Paper

Orange Letterpress Ink

Holiday Printing Plate Set 2

QK Die Cut

Green Velvet Ribbon
Double Sided Tape

How To:

After typing out your menu, print it on No.10 paper using your home printer, leaving some space at the top. Cut out a decorative label or oval on a scrap of letterpress paper using a QK nesting die. Use the Give Thanks printing plate from the Holiday set 2 and orange ink to letterpress the phrase onto your die cut label or oval. Secure ribbon and Give Thanks onto the top of your menu using double sided sticky tape.

Keep in mind you can use any size letteprress paper, any color ink and any print plate design to create the menu that will fit your Thanksgiving decor and table scape. Have fun with it.

Other Application:
I've found myself using this home printer + letterpress technique a lot. Use it to create invitations to invite family and friends to your Thanksgiving feast. Simply print the invite info onto a piece of letterpress paper, then letterpress any design on top.

For my birthday a couple of weeks ago I received a jumbo cupcake tin and a beautiful white cake stand (give me a cake stand and we’re friends for life). To break in these beauties I made pumpkin chocolate chip bread. Yes, I know, not cupcakes, but it works, especially with that pretty piped cream cheese frosting on top.

To tie it all into the Thanksgiving season, I made these letterpressed picks using traditional autumn colors with a kick of teal green...because I’m into teal these days.

Supplies:
L Letterpress and Epic Tools
Letterpress Paper (white, any size)
Holiday Printing Plate Set 2
Wedding Printing Plate Set 2
Letterpress Inks (orange, dark brown, yellow, red and teal green)
QuicKutz Cookie Cutter Nesting Circles (CC-SHAPE-14-024)
Paper Placement Guides
Craft Sticks
Double Sided Tape

Directions:
Cut five circles out of letterpress paper using the 2.5” ring from CC-SHAPE-14-025 (eighth ring from inside). Then letterpress a dark brown ring onto each circle using the medium size ring printing plate from the Wedding Set 2. Let this dry for a bit before moving to the next step (if you used the proper amount of ink, it does not take long to dry). Choose a variety of autumn shapes from the Holiday Set 2 and letterpress them onto your rings using fall colored inks, or whatever ink colors match your Thanksgiving decor.

Tip: Use the Paper Placement Guides to line your circle up perfectly with your printing plate.

Other Applications:
This size cupcake pick may be a little large for standard or mini cupcakes. No problem. Just use a smaller size ring from the QuicKutz nesting circles and don't letterpress the dark brown ring, just the holiday shapes.

While letterpressing this project I made a few extras, punched a hole in the top of the circle, added a ribbon then attached it to a pumpkin spice candle I gave to a friend.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? This year I get to focus on the decor and leave the food to someone else (my mother-in-law is fantastic cook and well known for her skills in the kitchen!). For me that's the best of both worlds. I get to create a fun environment and then enjoy a great meal.

where did L come from...

L is a brand I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I love to make things. It’s definitely a genetic thing - my mom’s a crafter and so are each of my 4 sisters. I even consider my dad a pretty crafty and handy guy. We like to create. We’re also no respecter of crafts. We like to sew, knit, paper craft, crochet, stamp, quilt, scrapbook…the list could go on and on. It’s such a part of our lives that I’ve even seen my mom tear up at the sight of all 5 of her girls knitting together.
Through the years, we’ve collected every type of craft product and probably joined every craft trend from scrunchies in the eighties (there wasn’t a birthday party we didn’t go to that homemade scrunchies weren’t part of the gift) to our current obsession with letterpress…and fabric flowers, crocheted flowers, felt food, baby clothes, tote bags, glass etching, cupcakes…this list really could on and on if we’re being honest!

It’s that desire to live a creative life that led to L. I want to make things that add a personal handmade touch to the events in my life—from simple day-to-day activities to big celebrations like birthdays, babies and holidays. The hope is that through great craft products, L will enable me, and you, to live that handmade, creative life.

The L Letterpress is the first step at making that happen and the plan is to continue to release quality, stylish and functional products for a variety of crafting needs.

After all, it’s your life – create it.

I love blogs. I remember bringing a Business Week magazine into the office one day (it was the May 2005 issue) where the cover read “Blogs Will Change Your Business”. At that time, I didn’t even know what a blog was but thought it might be something we should look at (it did say it could change our business!).

Little did I know that almost 5 years later blogging would become such a big part of my life. I blog and read blogs to be inspired, to collect and share ideas, to connect with friends and family, to make new friends, to journal the events of life, to relax, to indulge....

I’m so excited to contribute and be a part of this blog. Hopefully it will be a place where you can learn, find inspiration and have fun.

Wondering how to use the L Letterpress? It's easy! Here's a basic tutorial...

Step 1: Place printing plate on clear lid of L Letterpress tool. There are currently 15 printing plate sets with fantastic designs that can be mixed and matched to create an unlimited number of projects!

Step 2: Use the ink brayer to ink the printing plate. There are currently 20 ink colors available which can also be mixed to create additional custom colors!

Step 3: Place paper on the base of the tool. The L Letterpress paper is specifically designed for the L Letterpress tool to achieve that fantastic impression and soft texture.

Step 4: Close the lid of the L Letterpress tool and roll through the Epic Six tool to simultaneously print and deboss your image.
